Women's Soccer Loses at Xavier

CINCINNATI, OH -In their final road game of the season, the George Washington women's soccer team fell at Xavier by a score of 4-0, dropping the Colonials' record away from Mount Vernon to just 2-7-0. The four goals tallied by the Musketeers (7-8-2, 2-3-2), all coming in an 18-minute span in the first half, were the most allowed by GW (9-9-0, 2-6-0) in a game this season.
Xavier scored an early goal in the 8th minute and never looked back, cruising past their Atlantic 10 Conference counterpart for the victory. It was Karin Martini that notched the opening score, bending the ball over GW keeper Amie Kern. Just three minutes later, Xavier added to their lead when Angie Scarlato sent her sixth goal of the season in the corner of the net.
Later, in the 16th minute, George Washington was called for a penalty inside the box, resulting in a free kick for the Musketeers. Amber Silvis was tabbed to take the shot and was able to beat Kern from close range. Silvis would add her second goal of the match later in the 27th minute after receiving an assist from her sister, Ashley Silvis. In less than 19 minutes, Xavier had given GW their worst loss of the season. After winning their first two road matches this season, the Colonials have lost their last six by a combined scored of 14-0. The Musketeers are now 11-7-0 all-time against the Colonials.
George Washington will aim to secure a winning record for the first time since 2003 when they conclude their 2006 soccer season on Oct. 28, against La Salle. GW has an all-time series record of 12-2-0 against the Explorers, with last year's meeting resulting in a 2-1 Colonial win. The match is set for a 1:00 p.m. start time at Mount Vernon Field.
