WASHINGTON, DC -- Former Clemson University basketball standout Cheyenne Moore has transferred to George Washington University and will join the men's basketball program for the 2006-07 season, GW head coach Karl Hobbs has announced. Moore will have three years of eligibility at GW.
The 6-foot-5 forward leaves Clemson after one season where he started 17-of-32 games as a freshman in 2004-05. He averaged 19.5 minutes per game for the Tigers, who finished with a 16-16 record under coach Oliver Purnell. Clemson, which defeated Maryland three times last season, earned a berth in the 2005 NIT. A native of Baltimore, MD, Moore averaged 6.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game and added 51 assists.
Moore converted 39 three-point FGs last season, including a game-winner in Clemson's 63-62 overtime victory against South Carolina.
"I'm very excited that a player of his caliber has decided to come to GW," Hobbs said. "He comes from a great program in a great league and I feel that he will fit very well in our style of play."
Moore's stats from his freshman season at Clemson: appeared in 32 games, started 17 (games 4-20), 74-204 (.363) FGs, 39-134 (.291) 3FGs, 24-29 (.621) FTs, 81 rebs. (25 off., 56 def.) 2.5 rpg, 51 assists, 59 TOs, 10 blocks, 29 steals, 211 points (6.6 ppg).
GW (22-8, 11-5 A-10) was the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season West Division champion and A-10 tournament champion. The Colonials lost to Georgia Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Albuquerque Regional on March 18 at Nashville.
