Cross Country Names Giannis Doulamis Assistant Coach

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University cross country program has named former Colonials' standout Giannis Doulamis (pronounced "YAH-nee doo-LOM-iss") an assistant coach, head cross country coach Brian Beil announced on Tuesday. The Nashua, NH, native, who was a member of the GW cross country squad from 2000-04, will assist Beil in all aspects of the program with primary emphasis directing the Colonials' recruiting efforts. Doulamis replaces former assistant Darrell Andruski.
"With four years of experience as a student-athlete at GW and a year of volunteering with the program, I feel I'm adding someone in Giannis who will help take this program to the next level," second-year head coach Beil said. "In addition to his recruiting duties, Giannis will head our strength training program, as well as coordinate study hall and monitor the academic progress of our student-athletes. I'm happy to have an assistant join the program who is already very familiar with what the school has to offer, as well as an understanding of my coaching philosophy."
Upon graduation, Doulamis served as the Colonials' volunteer assistant coach for the 2004-05 season, helping to lead the men's and women's programs to a combined six first-place finishes last year. Following the cross country season, he joined Senator Judd Gregg's contingent and served as a staff assistant and a legislative correspondent on Capitol Hill.
Doulamis, who also will head the program's fundraising efforts, was a four-year letterwinner with the Colonials and served as team captain of the cross country team as a senior during the 2003-04 campaign. Off the playing field, he also served as the cross country team's Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) representative during his senior season.
