Cross Country Concludes Competition at Metro Championships

EMMITSBURG, MD - The George Washington University cross country team had several athletes compete at the Eric Kloiber Metro Championships, hosted by Mount St. Mary's, this past weekend on Saturday, April 23, at Morgan Track.
On the men's side, GW had three runners compete in the 800 meters led by sophomore Jay Vigorita's (Warwick, RI) time of 2:09.24. Senior Alex Kim (Scarsdale, NY) and sophomore Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY) finished just behind Vigorita in 2:09.53 and 2:10.81, respectively. In the 1500m, freshman Joe Altenau (Eastchester, NY) and Morgan placed 18th and 19th, respectively, with marks of 4:18.67 and 4:19.50, while freshman John Woodside (Edmond, OK) finished among the top 15 runners in the 5000m with a time of 17:03.71. For Altenau, the time marked a personal-best.
The Colonials had a pair of runners place among the top 10 finishers in the women's 5000 meters, as sophomores Taylor Leavitt (Turner, ME) and Meghan Hughes (Hurricane, WV) crossed the line in 19:22.45 and 20:53.99, respectively. In other action, freshman Gabrielle Polhemus (Boca Raton, FL) recorded a 10th-place finish in the 800m with a mark of 2:27.39.
GW is back in action in two weeks for its final meet of the season when it travels to Fairfax, VA, on Saturday, May 7, for the Mason Invitational, hosted by George Mason.
