GW Aims For First Atlantic 10 Championship

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW men's basketball team (21-7) goes for its first ever Atlantic 10 Tournament crown when it meets Saint Joseph's (19-10) in the championship game on Saturday, March 12 at 6:05 p.m. on ESPN. With a victory, the Colonials will secure the A-10's automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
GW has made two previous appearances in the tournament's title tilt, most recently in 1998, when it lost to Xavier.
The Colonials advanced to Saturday's championship game with a 77-58 drubbing of Temple in the semifinals on Friday, March 11. Conference Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Pinnock led four GW players in double figures with 16 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.
The Buff and Blue will hook up with Saint Joseph's, which defeated Xavier in the other semifinal, 73-68, to advance to the title game. League co-Player of the Year Pat Carroll hung 30 points on the Musketeers, including seven three-pointers, and Dwayne Lee chipped in 16 points.
The Colonials and Hawks met once during the regular season with Saint Joseph's posting a 71-56 decision over GW at the Smith Center in Washington, DC on March 1.
