Freshmen Pair Lead Cross Country at Tribe Open

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Led by a third-place overall finish from freshman Chris Pisano (Toms River, NJ) out of 71 competitors, the George Washington University men's cross country team placed third with 72 points at the Tribe Open, hosted by William & Mary, Saturday morning at the Eastern State Course in Williamsburg. The Colonial women finished fourth with 87 points and were led by freshman Audrey Hawkins' (Barrington, RI) 16th-place showing.
For Pisano, it was the third straight race in which he was the Colonials' top finisher. He finished with a time of 25:57.31 on the 8K course and was also the second-best collegiate finisher at the event, which was won by Jason Schoener who was competing unattached. Sophomore Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY) was GW's second-best finisher at 15th with a mark of 26:47.98.
Freshmen Keith Moody (Orange, FL) and Collin Stevenson (Sumner, WA) placed 25th and 39th, respectively, with times of 27:02.30 and 27:45.92, while sophomore John Woodside (Edmond, OK) completed the top five scorers with a 27:50.66 clocking to claim 41st.
On the women's side, Hawkins once again was the Colonials' top performer for the second time in as many weeks with a time of 23:38.70 on the 6K course to take 16th out of 57 runners. Senior Colleen McCauley (Havertown, PA) turned in a season-best performance to place 23rd overall with a time of 24:23.96, while junior Taylor Leavitt (Turner, ME) crossed the finish line in 25:03.32 to finish 31st.
Junior Meghan Hughes (Hurricane, WV) also finished with a season-best mark of 25:46.79 to take 38th. The Colonials' fifth- and sixth-best finishers were a pair of seniors in Emily Miletello (Baton Rouge, LA) and Bridget Realmuto (Queens, NY), who finished with times of 27:35.98 and 28:18.98, respectively.
GW returns to the course in two weeks when it travels to Philadelphia, PA, for the 2005 Men's and Women's Atlantic 10 Championships, hosted by La Salle, at Belmont Plateau set to get underway at 10 a.m.
