BETHLEHEM, PA - Led by freshmen Chris Pisano (Toms River, NJ) and Audrey Hawkins (Barrington, RI), the George Washington men's and women's cross country teams finished 40th and 39th in their respective races Saturday morning at the 32nd annual Paul Short Run held on host Lehigh's Goodman Campus.
This year's event featured the largest field in the meet's history, including several nationally-ranked squads in both the men's 8K and women's 6K Collegiate Invitational races.
Leading the way for the women was Hawkins, who was making her season debut for the Colonials. She covered the women's 6K course in 22:33 to finish 132nd out of 309 total runners. Senior Lindsay Blum (Holland, PA) and junior Taylor Leavitt (Turner, ME) were GW's next best finishers at 179th and 195th, respectively. Completing the top five for the Colonials were sophomores Mae Polhemus (Boca Raton, FL) (229th) and Michelle Concannon (LaGrangeville, NY) (241st). Polhemus clocked 23:35, while Concannon crossed the line at 23:44. Senior Colleen McCauley (Havertown, PA) finished with a time of 24:27 to place 276th.
Pisano, meanwhile, lowered his season-best time for the second consecutive week to pace the men's squad as its top finisher. He finished with a mark of 25:33 to place 129th overall out of 299. Sophomore Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY) was the Colonials' second-best finisher at 26:26 to place 231st. Freshmen Collin Stevenson (Sumner, WA) and Keith Moody (Orange, FL) followed Morgan across the finish line in 26:30 (240th) and 26:52 (258th), respectively. Sophomore Mark Drath (Los Angeles, CA) rounded out the top five with a time of 27:12 to claim 277th. In addition, senior Alex Kim (Scarsdale, NY) finished in 27:40 for 288th, while sophomore Christian Woodside (Edmond, OK) took 290th at 27:48.
Columbia, ranked 20th nationally, won the women's team race, while 12th-ranked Georgetown became just the second team in Paul Short history to post three straight victories on the men's side.
The Colonials are back in action in two weeks when they travel to Williamsburg, VA, on Saturday, Oct. 15, for the Tribe Open, hosted by William & Mary, set to begin at 11 a.m.
