WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's and women's cross country teams are back in action this weekend, hosting the 8th Annual GW Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Bull Run Park in Centreville, VA. The women's 5K race is set to get underway at 10:00 a.m., while the men's 8K race begins at approximately 10:45 a.m.
Nearly 200 competitors are expected to participate as the Colonials welcome George Mason, Gettysburg, Hampton, Marymount, NYU, Norfolk State, Seton Hall and Towson. Hampton, NYU and Towson will be competing only in the women's race.
The GW women placed third at last year's Invitational, while the men posted a fifth-place finish. William & Mary earned the victory on the men's side with 27 points, and Georgetown was victorious in the women's race with 34 points. The Colonials are the top returning school on each side for Saturday's meet.
Sophomore Bridget Skeuse (Stockton, NJ) is GW's top returning finisher on the women's side, as she placed eighth last year out of 160 runners. The Colonial women return four of their top five finishers from a year ago. On the men's side, sophomore Phil Sherman (Greenwich, CT) is the top returner. Sherman finished 59th with a time of 28:41.5.
On the women's side, senior Emily Jadwin (Mt. Laurel, NJ) has been the Colonials' top finisher the last two meets, both GW victories. At the Mount St. Mary's Invitational on Sept. 18, Jadwin earned individual gold to lead a 1-5 finish for the Colonials as they finished with a perfect score of 15 points. She owns a season-best mark of 19:15. Freshman Erynne Jones (Upland, CA) has also been a consistent performer for GW with top-10 finishes in all three meets.
Sophomore Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY) has led the charge for the Colonial men this season, along with freshmen twin brothers Christian and John Woodside (Edmond, OK). Morgan has been GW's top finisher the last two meets, including a third-place overall finish at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational to lead the Colonials to their first victory of the season. John Woodside, meanwhile, has notched top 10 finishes in two of three meets, while Christian Woodside placed fifth last week in a season-best 28:58.24.
