PHILADELPHIA (AP) - T.J. Thompson and J.R. Pinnock each scored 23 points as George Washington defeated La Salle 87-72 on Saturday, handing the Explorers their sixth straight loss.
Thompson hit 9-of-12 shots, and was 4-of-six from 3-point range for the Colonials (17-10, 11-5 Atlantic 10). Pinnock shot 8-for-14 and was 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Steven Smith had 26 points and 12 rebounds for La Salle (10-19, 5-11).
The victory secures a first-round bye for George Washington in the Atlantic 10 playoffs, which begin Wednesday.
The Colonials, who never trailed, held a 24-21 lead with 8:24 to go in the first half when Thompson and Pinnock each scored nine points during a 23-5 run, giving George Washington a 47-26 advantage with 2:12 left.
George Washington hit 7-of-9 shots from three point range in the first half, led 52-33 at intermission and were never threatened again. The lead reached 77-50 on a 3-point shot by Pinnock with 8:49 to go in the game. The Colonials made 30-of-50 shots in the game.
