Colonials Host NC State at Smith Center

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's basketball team (5-3) will put its two-game winning streak on the line Tuesday, Dec. 21 when it hosts ACC foe North Carolina State (8-1) at 7:00 p.m.
The Colonials have posted back-to-back victories against Virginia Commonwealth and Saint Mary's in its last two outings. Freshman Kimberly Beck was a huge part of GW's success in the two contests, averaging 13.5 points and 6.5 steals per game on her way to earning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.
In their last game, versus Saint Mary's on Dec. 17, GW shot a season-best 48.2 percent from the field and knocked down a season-high seven three-pointers as it rolled to a 68-49 win. Senior Jessica Simmonds recorded her second double-double of the season against the Gaels with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Kristina Gineitis chipped in a personal-best five points in the contest and has come off the bench to give the Colonials a lift in the last three games.
GW is the only school in the conference to have two players that rank in the top seven in the league in scoring. Simmonds ranks seventh at 14.9 points per game, while classmate Anna Montañana is fourth at 15.4 points per outing.
North Carolina State has won its last seven games after losing to Tennessee on Nov. 21. The Wolfpack destroyed North Carolina A&T, 76-29, in its latest outing on Dec. 18. With the victory, North Carolina State vaulted to No. 1 in the nation in scoring defense. The Wolfpack are allowing just 47.3 points per contest. Their defense is also forcing 23.1 turnovers per game.
Tiffany Stansbury is the squad's top scorer and rebounder at 12.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Three other NC State players, Marquetta Dickens, Billie McDowell, and Ashley Key are averaging more than nine points per game.
The Wolfpack leads the all-times series against the Colonials, 7-1, and has won the last six meetings and the last two at the Smith Center. GW's only victory against NC State came at home in 1992, 85-79.
