Sunday's Game: GW has had a week to prepare for the Fairfield Stags in GW's third game of the season this afternoon. GW (1-1) is coming off a 94-70 victory over Morgan State last Saturday at Smith Center. Fairfield (2-1) is coming off a 59-58 overtime victory over Elon last Tuesday at home in Bridgeport, CT. Today's game marks just the third meeting between the schools. Fairfield has won both previous meetings. Most recently, a 75-67 overtime decision last year in Bridgeport that GW coach Karl Hobbs calls the most disappointing loss in his head coaching career. In that game, GW committed a pair of costly turnovers and squandered an eight-point lead over the final 32 seconds of regulation before losing in overtime. Fairfield won the only other meeting, 73-65, on Dec. 28, 1988, in the Lobo Invitational at Albuquerque, NM during GW's nightmarish 1-27 season. Fairfield is led by 6-9 senior F Deng Gai (13.3 ppg, 9 rpg) and senior G Terrence Todd (10.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg). It was Todd who hit the long buzzer-beating three-pointer to force overtime in last year's game.
GW Head Coach Karl Hobbs: Karl Hobbs is 43-46 in his fourth season at the helm of the Colonials program. Hobbs is 0-1 against Fairfield and Stags' coach Tim O'Toole.
Next Game: GW hosts Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, Dec. 1, in an 8 p.m. game at Smith Center. The game is the second half of a women's/men's doubleheader and will be broadcast live in the Washington area on WMET 1160 AM and WAGE 1200 AM and via www.GWsports.com.
