WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University senior Trina Bolton (Avondale Estates, GA) has earned Atlantic 10 Cross Country Academic All-Conference honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The A-10 Cross Country Academic All-Conference Men's and Women's Teams are comprised of six student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or better and selected by the conference's Sports Information Directors.
Bolton was instrumental in leading the Colonials to five victories in their first five meets to open the season. She has been GW's No. 1 finisher in its last three meets, including an 18th-place showing at the A-10 Championships on Oct. 30 in a season-best 5K time of 18:50 to lead the Colonials to an eighth-place finish. In six events this season, Bolton has four top-10 finishes, including finishing second overall out of 81 runners at the George Mason Invitational on Oct. 2. Bolton, one of three seniors on the academic all-conference team, boasts a 3.59 GPA in International Affairs.
Duquesne led the way with three selections on the men's academic all-conference team, including senior Ryan Bender who was named the A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year. Bender was joined on the six-man team by senior teammates Kevin Borrelli and Steve Moyer, Massachusetts seniors Matthew Clark and Andrew McCarron, and Xavier senior Chris Tieke.
On the women's side, Rhode Island had three selections of its own as graduate Heidi Westerling, senior Cindy Smith, who was also voted student-athlete of the year, and junior Emily Anderson made up one-half of the team. Dayton senior Michelle Griffin and Richmond sophomore Amanda Russell joined Bolton to complete the squad.
The GW men's and women's cross country teams are back in action this weekend as they return to State College, PA, for the NCAA Mid Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Penn State, on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m.
