WASHINGTON, DC - Head Coach Joe McKeown has announced the hiring of Jacob Solomon as assistant women's basketball coach. Solomon joins the GW coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach with the women's basketball program at Manhattan College in 2001-02, and working as an international recruiting consultant for Pan-Continental Basketball for the previous two seasons.
"Jake's strength's fit the need of the program," McKeown said. "He has a lot of recruiting experience and he has coached at Manhattan, so he's been at the Division I level."
In 2002, Solomon founded Pan-Continental Basketball, an international recruiting service that provides information to interested coaches about top players from around the globe. Prior to starting the company, Solomon spent a year with the Jaspers and helped the team to an 18-11 overall record.
Solomon also brings six years of head coaching experience to McKeown's staff. From 1996-2001, Solomon was the head women's basketball coach at University College London. While in the position, he posted a remarkable .850 winning percentage, compiling a 51-9 overall record. Solomon led the team to conference championships in 1999 and 2000, and the club closed the 2001 campaign ranked third in England's national rankings.
Solomon also spent a year as the head women's basketball coach at the University of London and guided the team to a 15-0 record and the conference championship in 2000-01.
As a player, Solomon competed for the Salisbury Spires in England from 1998-2000 and served as the team's head coach and captain.
Solomon, a native of Southampton England, earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Heythrop College at the University of London in 1999. He resides in northwest Washington, DC.
George Washington will tip off the 2004-05 women's basketball season on Friday, Nov. 19 with a contest at Washington, DC rival Georgetown at 7:30 p.m. at McDonough Arena.
