WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University men's and women's cross country teams hit the road this weekend to race in their most competitive meet to date when they travel to State College, PA, on Saturday, Oct. 16, for the Penn State National at the University's Blue-White Golf Courses. The women's 6K race is set to get underway at 10 a.m., followed by the start of the men's 5.2 mile race at 11 a.m.
The women's collegiate race will feature 34 teams, including four squads ranked among the top 30 teams in the nation according to the latest FinishLynx NCAA Division I Women's Poll. Providence, who ranks second nationally, returns as the two-time defending Penn State National champions, while No. 5 Duke and No. 24 West Virginia will also likely challenge for the title. Twenty-ninth ranked Boston College, Wisconsin, Atlantic 10 member Duquesne, American and James Madison are also in the field.
On the men's side, the race features 31 teams, highlighted by American and Cornell, who both enter unranked, but are among 17 schools receiving votes in the latest MONDO Men's D-1 Poll. A-10 member Duquesne, James Madison and Maryland-Baltimore County are also in the field.
The GW women have placed first in all five of their meets on the season, with seniors Emily Jadwin (Mt. Laurel, NJ) and Trina Bolton (Avondale Estates, GA) leading the way. Last time out, the Colonials placed three runners in the top 10 and finished with 40 points to win the George Mason Invitational on Oct. 2 in Centreville, VA, at Bull Run Park. Jadwin, Bolton and freshman Michelle Concannon (LaGrangeville, NY) have each finished in the top ten in the Colonials' last three meets.
Sophomore Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY) has led the charge on the men's side as the Colonials' top finisher in their last four meets. GW placed fifth with 123 points last time out at the George Mason Invitational.
