PHILADELPHIA, PA - With The George Washignton University's top runners preparing for the Maryland Invitational, other members of the team needed to step up for the Colonials as they traveled to Philadelphia, PA to compete at the La Salle Invitational on Saturday, October 4. Senior Laura DeLucia (Manchester, NH/Central) was the top finisher for the women's team, while freshman Jeffrey Scranton (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor) was the top Colonials finisher in the men's race.
DeLucia had to fend off sophomore Sonal Kemkar (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Townships) as the two are battling to gain a spot on the Atlantic 10 Championships roster. Freshman Taylor Leavitt (Turner, ME/Leavitt Area) was the third finisher for the Colonials and was followed by sophomores Meredith Deschenes (Watertown, CT/Taft School) and Colleen McCauley (Havertown, PA/Academy of Notre Dame).
Scranton was one of only two Colonials to compete in the men's race and ran his best time of the year, 28:21.03. Freshman Marco Gonzalez (Anthony, TX/St. Anthony), running in only his second race of the season, completed the course in 31:07.04.
The full Colonials squad will hit the course again on Saturday, October 11 at the Maryland Invitational.
