FAIRFAX, VA - The George Washington women's tennis team swept the singles matches to defeat George Mason, 6-0, Thursday at the GMU Tennis Courts in Fairfax, VA. The victory was GW's fifth straight and first outdoors this year. GW improved to 8-5 in the spring while the Patriots dropped to 1-5.
"This was Sevla [Gonca]'s first match back since she hurt her knee," GW coach Helen Andrews said. "We moved everyone up a spot but everyone handled the shuffle beautifully and stepped up nicely."
Both junior Tracy Wei (Marietta, GA/Walton) and senior captain Katarina Stastny (St. Louis, MO/ St. Joseph's Academy) were dominant as neither lost a single game at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Next up for GW is Atlantic 10 rival La Salle on Saturday, March 30, at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. The match begins at noon.
