WASHINGTON (AP) - Chris Monroe scored 20 points as George Washington snapped a 10-game losing streak by beating Richmond 53-49 in an Atlantic 10 matchup Saturday.
Mike Skrocki led the Spiders with 20 points.
The Colonials (11-15, 4-11) took advantage of a disastrous shooting performance by Richmond at the start of the second half to build a 46-32 lead. The Spiders (15-12, 9-5) connected on just two field goals and missed three of four free throws.
Scott Ungerer finally broke the cold spell for Richmond with eight straight points that sparked a 14-4 run. Richmond cut the George Washington lead to two points with just under a minute remaining, but a Monroe putback with 28 seconds remaining sealed the win for the Colonials.
George Washington's victory stopped their worst losing streak since going 1-27 in the 1988-89 season.
