Men's Cross Country Wins Towson Invitational, Women Finish Second Mary Beth McCullough Wins Women's Race In Collegiate Debut
TOWSON, MD (Sept. 8, 2001) - Junior David Talbird (Lookout Mountain, TN/McCallie School) finished fourth out of 46 runners in the men's race and freshman Mary Beth McCullough (Brentwood, TN/Father Ryan) finished first in the women's race with a time of 19:50 to lead the Colonials to a first and second place overall finish at the Towson Invitational Saturday, in Towson, MD. The teams' outstanding debut came in their first competition under new head coach, Deb Hasfurther.
Talbird finished in 28:07 just ahead of teammates, sophomore David Azari (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury), freshman Zachary Holt (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and freshman Timothy Persico (Shavertown, PA/Scranton Prep), who finished in 28:10, 28:26, and 28:27, respectively, as the Colonials claimed four of the top seven spots on the men's side.
On the women's side, McCullough led a group of five Colonials that placed in the top 16 out of 68 overall competitors. Sophomore Emily Jadwin (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Rutgers University) finished fifth (20:19), freshman Erin Patton (Saline, MI/Saline) finished seventh (20:33), junior Jessica Gross (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) finished 15th (20:46) and freshman Mary Caterina Bolton (Avondale Estates, GA/Lovett School) finished 16th (20:48).
The Colonials return to action on September 22 as they travel to Emmitsburg, MD, for a meet at Mount St. Mary's.
