Women's Tennis Sweeps Weekend, Tops Mountaineers and Bison

On Friday, March 9, the Colonials edged the Howard Bison 4-3 behind solid singles play. Nazli Gencsoy, Lindy First and Samantha Fisher were all victorious in their singles matches giving GW a 4-2 edge in points with Susie Coggin winning by forfeit. Howard won the final point in doubles play, winning two tough matches against Katarina Stastny and First, 8-6 and Tracy Wei and Gencsoy 8-6.
The Colonials met with another challenge on Saturday, March 10, against the West Virginia Mountaineers. GW and WVU split in singles play 3-3, with the Colonials collecting wins from their 2-4 spots. Gencsoy, First and Stastny were victorious, knotting the dual match at three games apiece. GW would prevail in doubles play, with First and Stastny winning easily 8-3, and Fisher and Coggin winning the deciding match 9-8 in a battle.
The Colonials (7-3) next visit Mount St. Mary¹s on March 30, at 3:00 pm.
