ST. BONAVENTURE HEAD COACH JIM BARON:
"These guys (George Washington) have been fiesty. They've got some guys
who can score. This was an emotional night: the sellout, the seniors. I
said to my assistants, 'Duke lost last night on senior night. That's
tough to do.'"
On Peter Van Paassen: "It's just tremendous. I get pumped, I get excited. I think these guys know that they can play with him, that they can play through him."
ST. BONAVENTURE SENIOR KEVIN HOUSTON:
"There's only a few teams in this conference that play really physical.
This is one of those teams. I think the first game was even more
physical. I think it gets us ready for the tournament."
"I think every team in a game goes through stretches where they're not gonna hit shots. I think the most important thing is to keep on fighting, because eventually you're gonna hit a shot. Eventually you're going to make a play."
GEORGE WASHINGTON HEAD COACH TOM PENDERS:
"I thought we had a good handle in the game. We had a lot of turnovers,
and Bonas was too good for us at home. They were not going to let it get
away. It was a great game, with a lot of momentum. I think the key shot
was Kevin's banker. It was like an omen. We would have been up by four
if he missed it, and we could have come back."
"We have all the respect in the world for Bonas. It was great to come back and almost beat them. But probably for the good of the conference, we might have hurt them post-season. I wasn't focused on the tournament this year. It was a building year."
"For an NIT bid, they had to beat us. And for them to finish above .500 in the league and 18 and 19, they should be at the NITs. With Van Paassen hurt and not as effective... he's got a lot of courage and he's a great kid. Without him on the floor, they couldn't have won this game."
