Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Skip Prosser: "Very honestly, I have no idea how we won the game. I know that we won the game. Give a lot of credit to GW. For most of the game, they took it to us. At times, we really guarded. We made some stops when we had to. I thought our students played great free-throw defense, holding Ngongba to just one free throw (with one second left in regulation with the score Xavier 63, GW 62)."
On winning the close games: "We’re a little bit older. We’re guarding better. We’re rebounding better. We have more than one ‘go-to’ guy. Maybe it helps to be a Catholic team."
West: "They’re a good team. They have a bunch of big-time scorers. I’ve played them two times last year and two times this year. The games always go down to the wire."
"We stepped it up defensively. They didn’t score in overtime. We dug down physically and found a way to win."
Frey: "It’s frustrating (missing so many free throws) because it almost cost us the game. I’m sure we’re going to shoot a lot of free throws on Monday. They always play us physically. Coach told us (at halftime) we’ve got to knuckle down and hit the boards and be ball strong."

Coach Tom Penders: "I called that (Timeout) about five seconds before (Val Brown made the shot near the end of regulation). I don’t know why it wasn’t called sooner. I think a couple of the XU players stopped (Because they heard the referee’s whistle)."
"I’m real proud of the way our kids played. It was a typical Xavier-GW game. A war on the boards. The whole thing. It was a great battle."
