Men's Cross Country Third, Women Fourth at Maryland Invitational
COLLEGE PARK, MD (Oct. 14, 2001) - Sophomore David Azari (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) finished 10th out of 72 runners in the men's race and freshman Mary Beth McCullough (Brentwood, TN/Father Ryan) finished 19th out of 97 runners in the women's race to lead the Colonials to a third and fourth place overall finish at the Maryland Invitational Saturday, Oct. 13, in College Park, MD.
Azari finished in 26:59.41, 15 seconds ahead of fellow sophomore Darrell Andruski (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who had a strong showing. Andruski finished 13th with a time of 27:14.53. Freshman Tim Persico (Shavertown, PA/Scranton Prep) and junior Chris Zurich (Keene, NH/Keene) finished 18th and 19th, respectively. Persico finished in 27:37.18 while Zurich finished in 27:41.30.
On the women's side, McCullough and senior Jenee Peterson (Latham, NY/Shaker) led a group of four Colonials that placed in the top 30. McCullough had another strong performance, finishing in a time of 20:19.41. Peterson was right behind her teammate with a time of 20:19.95. Freshmen Erin Patton (Saline, MI/Saline) and Mary Caterina Bolton (Avondale Estates, GA/The Lovett School) finished 26th and 28th, respectively. Patton finished with a time of 20:37.70, while Bolton finished in 20:41.88.
