PITTSBURGH (AP) - SirValiant Brown hit a closely guarded 12-footer with five seconds left to rally George Washington to a 77-75 victory over Duquesne on Tuesday night.
Chris Monroe scored a career-high 28 points for the Colonials (8-11, 2-5 in Atlantic 10), who won at Duquesne for the second consecutive season. Brown, the nation's second-leading scorer last season, had 21 points.
Duquesne (7-12, 1-5) led 72-69 with 3:54 remaining, but the Colonials scored the next six points on free throws, four by Monroe and two by Mike King, to take a 75-72 lead with 1:18 remaining.
After both teams turned the ball over twice in the next 30 seconds, Wayne Smith tied it for Duquesne with a 3-pointer with 33 seconds to play.
George Washington, which had lost five of six and was 0-4 on the road, then worked the clock down for Brown's off-balance shot, which came with a defender in front and another behind him.
Smith had 22 points and Courtney Wallace had 16 for the Dukes, who started a four-game home stand by losing their sixth in seven games. They had been 4-1 at home.
Duquesne (7-12, 1-5) fell behind 14-6, but used a pair of 8-0 runs to go ahead 27-20. The Dukes stretched the lead to 43-34 early in the second half.
