SirValiant Brown Named GW's MVP For 1999-2000

Antxon Iturbe (Vitoria, Spain/St. John's at Prospect Hall) was the recipient of the Desire Award given to the player who best exemplifies the work habits, hustle and motivation to help the team succeed.
Junior Mike King (Baltimore, MD/Lake Clifton) was accorded the Sixth Man Award while junior Bernard Barrow (Harlem, NY/Kilgore (TX) CC) was given the team's Defense Award. The Colonials' Jason Smith (Boston, MA/Winchendon) was named the team's Most Improved Player.
Brown was second in the nation in scoring (24.6 ppg) and was the 2000 Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Year and an honorable mention AP All-American. He broke or tied four school records including most points in a season (738) and the Smith Center single-game scoring record with 42 points vs. Siena. Brown and Monroe combined to win the A-10 Rookie of the Week Award a total of 10 times, more than any other pair of teammates in league history.
GW posted a 15-15 overall record and placed second in the Atlantic 10 Conference West Division with a 9-7 mark.
