GW Defeats Fordham 88-83

SirValiant Brown, the nation's leading scorer, had 12 of his 20 points in the final 4:58 as George Washington recovered from blowing a 14-point, second-half lead to overtake Fordham 88-83 in an Atlantic-10 conference game Saturday.
Jason Smith paced the Colonials (14-13, 8-6) with 24 points, two more than Chris Monroe who also had a team-high 15 rebounds.
Duke Freeman-McKamey of the Rams (13-14, 6-9) registered game-highs of 28 points, 26 in the second half, and 20 rebounds. Bevon Robin added 23 points.
After Mike King's jumper gave GW its biggest lead, 55-41 at 15:10 of the second half, Freeman-McKamey's three jump shots led a 19-8 run to get Fordham into contention 63-60 at 9:47.
The Rams edged in front with just over six minutes left but Smith's jumper tied the score at 74. Brown, who entered the game with a 24.7 scoring average, registered his team's next 12 points to put GW in front 85-76 with 2:10 to play.
The Rams closed to 86-83 on a jumper by Jason Harris with 55 seconds left. Robin then attempted a 3-pointer that bounced off the front rim and Antxon Iturbe, fouled while grabbing the rebound with 3.8 seconds left, converted two foul shots to complete the scoring.
