Colonials Fall To Conference Rival Xavier, 88-76

CINCINNATI (AP) (Feb. 22) -- Darnell Williams scored 24 points and Maurice McAfee had 22 as Xavier defeated George Washington 88-76 on February 22.
The Musketeers (17-9 overall, 7-6 Atlantic 10 Conference) held George Washington freshman SirValiant Brown, who was averaging 25 points per game, to 15. He made five field goals in 24 attempts and the Colonials (13-13, 7-6) were 26-for-72 from the field for 36.1 percent.
Xavier was 18-for-28 in the first half and for the game was 31-for-54 for 57.4 percent. Lloyd Price scored 16 for the Musketeers.
Mike King had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Chris Monroe added 16 for George Washington.
Xavier scored the first nine points and never trailed. The Musketeers led 48-31 at halftime and were ahead by double digits through most of the second half,
A late run by the Colonials reduced the margin to 81-76 with 54 seconds left, but Xavier got the final seven points on three free throws, a layup by Williams and a dunk by McAfee.
