Richmond Edges Colonials 84-80 in Overtime

WASHINGTON (AP) - Reggie Brown made six free throws in the final 17.8 seconds of overtime Saturday night to lift the Richmond Spiders to an 84-80 victory over George Washington.
Brown, a 6-4 sophomore guard from Flushing, N.Y., prevailed in a sharpshooting contest against George Washington's SirValiant Brown, a 6-1 sophomore guard from Springfield, Va.
Richmond's Brown had 28 points on 7-for-13 shooting, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range, and 11 of 13 free throws. George Washington's Brown also scored 28 points on 8-for-22 shooting, including 4 of 11 from behind the arc, and 8 of 10 free throws.
Reggie Brown gave the Spiders (6-1) a 69-66 lead with a 3-pointer with 37.9 seconds remaining in regulation. Val Brown pulled the Colonials (5-3) to a 69-69 tie on a 3-pointer with 31.2 seconds left.
On Richmond's final possession of regulation, George Washington's Bernard Barrow stole a pass from former Colonials swingman Kinte Smith, who forced a pass inside to 6-11 center Tim Faulconer, with 5 seconds left. Val Brown called for a timeout as the Colonials rushed the ball upcourt, but time expired before any official blew his whistle.
Reggie Brown buried a 3-pointer from the corner to give George Washington a 76-75 lead with 1:53 remaining in overtime. After Val Brown missed a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left, Scott Ungerer gave Richmond a 78-75 lead with one of two free throws with 34.9 seconds left.
Forward Antxon Iturbe pulled George Washington to 78-77 with two free throws with 22.2 remaining. Val Brown then fouled Reggie Brown, who made a pair of free throws with 17.8 left. He added two more with 5.3 ticks left.
Greg Collucci hit a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left, pulling the Colonials to 82-80. Reggie Brown capped the Spiders' fourth-consecutive victory with two free throws with 1/10th of a second remaining.
Greg Stevenson had 19 points and eight rebounds for Richmond, which got 10 points from Ungerer. Chris Monroe, who fouled out with 3:51 left in overtime, had 20 points and five rebounds for George Washington, which got 17 points and eight rebounds from Mike King.
