Monroe Earns A-10 Player of the Week Honor

WASHINGTON, DC (Dec. 4) - George Washington's Chris Monroe (Hyattsville, MD/ Good Counsel H.S.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week for men's basketball Dec. 4, the league has announced. He is the first Colonial to win A-10 honors thus far this season.
Monroe averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds in GW's two games last week. The 6-foot-3 guard scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season (fifth of his career) in the Colonials' 76-64 loss at South Florida Nov. 28. He followed that with a 22-point, eight-rebound effort in GW's 85-75 upset victory over No. 19 St. John's Saturday in the BB&T Classic at MCI Center.
For the week, he averaged 23.0 points, 10.0 rebounds with two assists and a steal in the two games. He shot 33 percent (12-36) from the field, including 3-9 from three-point range, and was 19-25 (.760) from the line.
Monroe is GW's second-leading scorer with 20.3 points per game and is second on the team with 5.6 rebounds per game.
GW (5-2) next plays host to Richmond (3-1) on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Smith Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
