Men's Basketball Drops to Virginia Tech 82-72

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Dennis Mims scored 25 points and Rolan Roberts had 17 points and 11 rebounds Saturday as Virginia Tech beat George Washington 82-72.
The Hokies (8-7, 2-2 Atlantic 10) led 34-26 at halftime, then shot 59.3 percent in the second half to win their second straight following a three-game slide.
George Washington (6-9, 0-2), playing without guard Mike King and forward Patrick Ngongba, was led by Chris Monroe with 22 points and SirValiant Brown with 20.
The Colonials, who ended their own three-game skid in a victory against American on Wednesday, shot just 40.6 percent for the game to the Hokies' 53.8 percent.
Mims finished 10-for-12 from the field and scored 14 of his points in the second half.
The Colonials three times closed to within six points, the last at 46-40 after two free throws by Brown with 13:50 to play, but never got any closer. Over the final 9 1/2 minutes, they got the deficit to single digits once, at 65-56 with 6:57 to play.
