GW Men Sweep A-10 Cross Country Honors

WASHINGTON, DC (September 27, 1999) - GW cross country runners Jeff McCarthy (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury H.S.) and David Talbird (Lookout Mountain, TN/McCallie School) earned honors as Atlantic 10 co-performer and rookie of the week, respectively.

A senior, McCarthy led throughout most of the 5-mile course at the Third Annual GW Invitational on Sunday, and won the event with a time of 26:17.30. He shares the honor this week with St. Joseph's Ryan Anderson. Talbird, a freshman competing in just his second collegiate race, placed fourth with a time of 26:32.32. In Talbird's first race at Navy two weeks ago, he placed second overall.

McCarthy and Talbird will be back in action, along with the rest of the men's and women's teams, as they travel to Philadelphia on Saturday for the La Salle Invitational.
