Lea and Converse Named to Academic All-America Team

WASHNGTON, DC (March 29, 1999) -- Two George Washington University student-athletes have been named to the GTE Academic All-America District II University Division At-Large Second Team. Senior women's soccer played Jane Lea (Mississauga, Ontario/University of Ontario) represents the women, while sophomore cross country runner Nathan Converse (York, PA/York Suburban) represents the men. It is the first Academic All-America honor for both athletes.
Lea maintains a 3.91 GPA while majoring in exercise science. A forward for the soccer team, Lea led GW in total points for the season with 22 points on eight goals and six assists. Her consistent performance led GW to its sixth consecutive A-10 championship tournament appearance. The Conference selected Lea to its All-Conference first team and to its All-Championship team. Lea also received All Mid-Atlantic honors when she was selected for the second team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She was also named to the A-10 Academic All-Conference team for the fall semester.
Converse carries a 3.97 GPA as an international affairs major. A consistent runner for the Colonials, Converse finished 10th at the La Salle Invitational and 12th against Richmond, Towson and Old Dominion where he posted his fastest time of the season, 27:22.0. He has been on GW's Athletic Department Dean's List for three semesters
