Hardy Pearce ('33) played varsity football for GW starting in 1932, and quickly became known as a 210-pound left tackle willing to plow through opponents. Among his successes noted in the University newspaper, on November 1, 1932, The Hatchet reported "block kicked by Hardy Pearce, giant Colonial tackle, on 10-yard line, put GW in scoring position."
Earlier, Pearce had played football for Simmons College in Texas, and after graduation became head coach at a Texas high school. He was recruited to play for GW, where he earned his master's degree.
After graduation, the Texas native became head football coach at Eastern High School and Central High School, both in Washington, D.C., and later became director of physical education for the District school system, a position he held until retirement in 1971.
He was married to Marion, also a GW alumnus, and they had two children, Hardy, Jr. and Sarah.
