Capping a banner year in the classroom for GW student-athletes, the George Washington University Department of Athletics earned a 3.43 GPA in the spring semester, keeping the collective mark in 2025-26 above a 3.4 as well after a 3.4 cume mark in the fall.
94 members of the Athletics Class of 2026 graduated last month, after ceremonies that included the annual Senior Honors Toast, and the glamour of The Georgeys. The Class of 2026 goes out having led a department that achieved a GPA of 3.25+ in each of the last 10 semesters.
These accomplishments come on top of a 97% graduation rate and 17 GW programs with a perfect single year Academic Progress Rate of 1,000. In the spring, 33 student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA, while 55% notched a GPA above a 3.5. Volleyball led the way with a 3.67 team mark, with lacrosse (3.62), softball (3.60), gymnastics (3.57) and golf (3.57) also performing in exemplary fashion.
GW will also have 286 student-athletes recognized on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The university's student-athletes are supported academically by Assistant Athletics Director James Hellekjaer, teamed with Natalie Ellard, Stephen McNamara and Abby Purches, as well as many academic tutors.
