Elana Meyers Taylor Wins Olympic Gold
Our inspiring softball alumna, GW Athletics Hall of Famer, and former university Commencement Speaker, Elana Meyers Taylor, started GW's golden hour with a breathtaking performance at the Winter Olympics.
Taking home the gold in monobob to tie Bonnie Blair's U.S. Winter Olympics medal record by an American woman with her sixth, the most decorated athlete in U.S. bobsleigh history, and the most decorated Black Winter Olympian in history, Meyers Taylor added to a resume of dominance as the premier U.S. slider in history.

GW Swimming & Diving A-10 Domination Continues
Just days later, our swimming & diving teams took center stage at the Atlantic 10 Championships to resume their reign of dominance in the conference, with the men's team winning its sixth straight conference title and the women's team placing second.
After the meet, Andres Brooks was crowned Most Outstanding Male Rookie Performer—the ninth Revolutionary to earn the achievement—while Talya Ergodan earned the top female rookie accolade in the conference.
The quest for continued glory marches on for both teams at next month's NCAA Championships. Record-setting swimmers Holden Thomas and Ava Topolewski will represent GW on the national stage.

Half of GW Student-Athletes Achieve 3.5+ GPA in Fall '25 Semester
Also last month, we honored our scholar-athletes, who are proof positive of the power of intercollegiate athletics - a uniquely American enterprise – that affords our young people the unmatched opportunity to study and compete at the highest levels.
Alongside President Granberg, Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Kyle Levers, and distinguished faculty nominees for Professor of the Year, we celebrated our 400 student-athletes who combined to achieve a 3.40 GPA overall. Fall 2025 marks nine-consecutive semesters of a 3.25+ cumulative GPA for GW Athletics.
GW Revs Notch Signature Wins for Men's & Women's Basketball Teams
February also delivered a pair of signature home wins for GW basketball, which were emblematic of what our flagship programs can deliver to the university and a reminder of how sports can inspire and and unite a community.
With President Granberg and university leadership sitting alongside GW giant Shawnta Rogers courtside on the night we honored his jersey, a national television audience saw the men's basketball team rout their nearby rival, George Mason.
Five days later, the women's basketball program outlasted Richmond in overtime for the defining win of the Coach G era thus far.
Both basketball squads are battling for position in the upcoming A-10 conference tournaments for the women (March 5 – 8) in Henrico, VA and for the men in Pittsburgh, PA (March 11 – 14). The excitement begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday when our women take on Dayton.Â
We hope you'll join us in person, and encourage you to support GW's student-athletes.

Spring Sports Starting Up
There will be several opportunities to rally behind our teams, students, and coaches in the coming weeks.
The 2026 Lacrosse First-Year Class is garnering accolades with three Rookie of the Week nods already, part of a Revolutionary offense ranked in the Top 10 nationally.
Matt Klampert and Jackie Calla are guiding softball and tennis with steady hands in their first seasons at GW.
Women's rowing will race the annual GW Invite on Saturday, April 11, where we will celebrate the 50th season as a varsity program.
Baseball will celebrate two all-time greats in Hank Bunnell on Su‌nday, Ma‌rch 15 and Sam Perlozzo on Sa‌turday Ap‌ril 11.
Please mark your calendars for these can't-miss events.

One Final Note from Last Fall
Special thanks to all those who joined us on campus in December for a month of celebrations, including:
- The 50th Anniversary of the Charles E. Smith Center
- The induction of the GW Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025
- Our first-ever all-sport letterwinner reunion that reunited decades of alumni
- The homecoming of legendary women's basketball coach Joe McKeown
- The launch of our new tradition honoring the jerseys of the greatest to ever wear the Buff and Blue.
We loved seeing everyone back in Foggy Bottom reconnecting with each other and strengthening our GW community. We invite you to return often, and as always...
Raise High!
P.S. GW Giving Day is officially set for Ap‌ril 7 – 8. This 48-hour sprint is more than just a fundraising event; it is a powerful testament to the strength and unity of our Revolutionaries community.
