Lacrosse Thwarts Howard on Opening Day

WASHINGTON -Â Behind 22 goals netted on opening day, GW lacrosse jumped out to a swift 22-7 stifling of the Howard Bison at its home-opening contest.Â
A LOOK AT THEÂ ACTION
- The Buff & Blue claimed the momentum early, scoring 15 goals in the first half before finishing things off with an additional seven in the second 30 minutes of action. The Bison got on the board early twice, scoring two of its seven goals within the first 10 minutes of play.Â
- Veteran attacker Grace Curry and first-year Mia Milkowski led the charge for GW on offense, each netting four goals. First-year Daisen Iwan notched a hat trick in her first collegiate game as well. In total, 11 GW Revs scored in the win, demonstrating a balanced attack.Â
- Ava St. Jeanos and Milkowski fed the attack by combining for five of the team's eight assists.Â
- Iwan led the Revolutionaries in the draw circle with four draw controls.
- On defense, senior Stella Ray and first-year Maggie Pond each recorded three ground balls, and the defensive cohort combined for eight caused turnovers.Â
- In the cage, Gabi Greth earned the win with seven saves.Â
GW now sets its sights on the William & Mary Tribe as it hosts another matchup at the Vern. Opening draw is scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m.
