
Volleyball Opens 2025 Competing in D.C. Challenge

WASHINGTON- GW volleyball has set its sights on 2025 and will stay local for the opening weekend of the program's 50th season, traveling across the District to be tested by Howard and American and welcoming Virginia to the Charles E. Smith Center. All three of the weekend matchups will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
Head Coach Katie Reifert enters her fourth season leading the Revolutionaries after her third trip to the Atlantic 10 Championship last season. After earning a conference preseason ranking of No. 5, six newcomers will wear the Buff & Blue for the first time this weekend, while an experienced group of 10 letterwinners have returned to compete for GW. Among the returning cohort is 2024 All-Rookie selection Taylor Treahy, team captains Penelope Hiepler, Abby Markworth and Amina Robinson and experienced starters in Cianna Tejada, Sydney Stewart and Dilara ElmacıoÄŸlu.Â

The Revolutionaries and Bison will meet early in the year once again. The Buff & Blue bested the Bison last year, 3-0, at the Smith Center and hold an all-time series advantage, 22-10. Howard finished its 2024 season 23-6 and came up short to Delaware State in the MEAC Championship. The Bison were picked as the preseason favorite in the MEAC preseason poll.Â

GW leads the all-time series, 10-6, and will look to challenge the ACC school on its home court. UVA finished 2024 with 21 wins, its most since 2006, and were tabbed ninth in the ACC preseason poll.Â
