OLEAN, N.Y. – The George Washington women's basketball team captured its second-consecutive Atlantic 10 win, defeating St. Bonaventure, 58-49, on the road Saturday afternoon. The Buff & Blue improve to 10-13 on the year with six games left until the postseason.
Neither team got out to a hot start shooting the ball as the Bonnies held a slim 12-11 advantage after the first 10 minutes. The second quarter was a different story, as GW tallied the first 17 points of the stanza en route to outscoring the home team 21-5. First-year Gabby Reynolds led the scoring push in the second, tallying seven of her 10 points in the second 10 minutes. GW took a 32-17 lead into the halftime break, the largest lead GW has had at halftime since Dec. 16 at American.
Despite the deficit, St. Bonaventure made things interesting in the second half, outscoring GW in both the third and fourth quarters. The Bonnies cut the GW Revs' lead to single digits on multiple occasions, but GW made just enough plays down the stretch to hold onto the win.
Makayla Andrews led the Buff & Blue offense with 15 points and nine rebounds, while fellow grad student Paige Mott turned in a 12-point, 8-rebound effort. Despite scoring only four points in the contest, first-year Miriam Diala was vital off GW's bench, making hustle plays in the second half that helped fuel GW's win.
The Revolutionaries return to action on Wednesday, making a trip to the Windy City to face Loyola Chicago. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.
