WASHINGTON - Sunday's noon matinee at the Smith Center marked Alumnae Day and Senior Day for George Washington and in front of a who's who of former GW stars sitting courtside, the current GW Revs honored Maxine Engel, Makayla Andrews, Paige Mott and Mariona Planes Fortuny for their contributions to the Buff and Blue in a pregame ceremony.
The team then took the floor and gave the visiting Wildcats all they could, battling early to try to snap Davidson's six-game winning streak and upset the third-place team in the conference. George Washington rallied from a 10-point second quarter deficit to close the first half on a 12-0 run, taking a 32-30 lead into halftime. The visitors showed their teeth in the third and regained its footing, bringing a 58-45 lead into the fourth before claiming the 73-54 win.
Sara Lewis led GW with 11 points.
The Revolutionaries' final home game of the season comes Wednesday afternoon at 12 p.m. in a special School Day contest for area youth that will double as Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day for GW employees. The club's final game before next month's A-10 Championship in Henrico, Va. (3/5 - 3/9) is at Rhode Island on March 1.
