Moon Township, Pa. - After a tight battle in the second half, the GW lacrosse team claimed its fourth win of the season over Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon. The Revolutionaries capitalized on several key scoring opportunities, especially in player-up situations, while also remaining vigilant on defense, led by the stalwart group of Stella Ray, Katie Hipp and Grace Gordon.
GW jumped out to a quick start in the first 15 minutes and notched five goals before Robert Morris would answer with one just before the end of the quarter. Caroline Sullivan got the scoring started for the Buff & Blue, before Kiki Rotay and Katie Fullowan added in to secure the lead for GW.
In the second, the Robert Morris Colonials jumped out quickly, notching two goals early. Fullowan and the Revolutionaries fought back to add one before half, but the home team found the back of the net one more time before the break to make it a two-goal game.
Starting the third, the Colonials moved to tie things up, but first-year Sophia Levine added one to reclaim the lead for the GW Revs. Pheobe Mullarkey found the back of the net towards the end of the quarter to once again claim a two-goal lead over the home team.
The fourth proved to be a tight battle, with Robert Morris outscoring GW 2-1, but the defense remained vigilant in the final moments of the game to hang on to the lead and move the team to a 4-0 record with an exiting 9-8 game victory.
