WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team looks to stay hot on Saturday, hosting Dayton for a 2:00 p.m. tip inside the Smith Center. Live coverage will be available on ESPN+ and Monumental Sports Network as the Buff & Blue look to extend their winning streak to four.
GETTING HOT DOWN THE STRETCH
Wednesday's win against Loyola Chicago extended GW's winning streak to three games, tying the team's longest stretch of victories in a row this season. The GW Revs' defense was key in the win, holding the Ramblers to just eight points in the first half. LUC was limited to just three made field goals, shooting 14.3% in the opening 20 minutes. Over GW's hot streak, the Revolutionaries are holding opponents to just 49.7 points a game and outscoring the opposition by 10.3 points a night.
PLAYING IN PINK
Saturday's game marks the program's annual Play4Kay contest, as the team honors and shows support to all those affected by cancer in women. On the court, GW will wear white and pink uniforms for the first time this season, with the first 300 fans in attendance receiving a free "I Play 4" rally towel. Donations to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund can be made here.
A-10 STANDINGS UPDATE
Entering the weekend, GW sits in a tie with VCU for the 11-seed in the Atlantic 10 standings. The Revolutionaries are 4-9 in conference play, sitting one win behind Saint Louis for 10th place, the top seed to play on day one of the Atlantic 10 Championship. As the standings currently sit, the Revolutionaries would battle Loyola Chicago in the opening round of the tournament, with the winner playing Massachusetts, the current five seed. The full A-10 standings can be found here.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the weekend 13-11 overall and 7-6 in the Atlantic 10 following a 61-51 loss to Davidson on Wednesday afternoon. The Flyers have dropped three-straight and four of their last five, with a win over the Ramblers being the only victory in that span. Dayton is led by third-year Head Coach Tamika Williams-Jeter, who holds a 32-51 overall record since taking over the program. The UConn grad won two national titles with the Huskies as a player and previously spent one season as Head Coach of the NCAA Division III Wittenberg Tigers before being named the bench boss with the Flyers.
On the court, Dayton's offense is paced by Ivy Wolf, who averages 16.0 ppg, which ranks sixth in the A-10. Wolf averages 4.2 boards a night while also dishing out 2.6 assists a game, which ranks second on the team. Arianna Smith, who leads the conference in field goal percentage at a scorching 62.8% clip, is second on the team in scoring at 12.0 ppg. The 6-2 senior forward is also third in the A-10 in rebounding, pulling down 9.4 a game.
