Indoor Track Shines With Five First-Place Finishes on Opening Day

Virginia Beach, Va.- GW indoor track kicked off its winter season on Friday in Virginia Beach, Va., and made a strong showing along the way. Over the course of the day, the Buff & Blue notched five first-place finishes across the slate of events.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· Sarah Mitchell kicked off the day for the Revolutionaries in the 5000m, earning the event's top finish in 17:09.39. Kaitlyn Segreti followed right behind Mitchell in second (17:37.29) and Ashley Robinson also represented GW, finishing in 18:48.41.
· Shannon Hieber (5:05.18), Dierdre Kenny (5:06.37) and Sonia Lountchenko (5:24.98) swept the top three spots in the mile. All three also competed in the 800m, where Hieber (2:21.64) and Kenny (2:22.50) took first and second, while Lountchenko placed fourth (2:30.31).
· In the sprints, Janae Russell clocked an 8.15 in the 60m dash. In the 200m, Amaka Agwu (26.59), Olivia Clark (26.77) and Lainey Goldstein (26.79) each turned in strong efforts.
· Agwu later saw victory in the 500m, claiming the race in 1:18.55. Rylan Priest finished behind Agwu in third (1:20.07), and with Clark (1:20.39), Marcella Mancini (1:20.55), Goldstein (1:22.16) and Kayla DeSousa (1:23.67) each competing as well.
· In the day's final short-distance event, Mancini led GW with a fifth-place finish in the 300m in 43.02, followed by Russell (43.34), Priest (43.65) and DeSousa (45.22).
· GW dominated the 3000m, taking the top seven spots. Hadley Mahoney won in 9:40.58, followed by Claire Bohan (9:52.71), Lola Dinneen (10:07.37), Julia Shanes (10:18.83), Emma Friedrich (10:21.66), Maya Van Horn (10:23.04) and Erin Wallwork (10:29.74). Molly Weber finished close behind in 11th at 10:39.47.
The Revolutionaries return to action after the new year at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Catholic University on Jan. 17.
