Late Rally Comes Up Short at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – Despite a late fourth-quarter push, the George Washington women's basketball team came up short on Monday night, falling to Longwood, 71-62. The Revolutionaries drop to 1-3 on the season, while Longwood improves to 4-1 on the year.
GW started the contest slowly, trailing the host Lancers by four after the first. Longwood then limited GW to two field goals in the second quarter, outscoring the Buff & Blue, 23-9, and leading 44-22 at the break.
Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan lit a fire under the team in the locker room, igniting GW to outscore Longwood by five in the third and eight in the final frame, including multiple 6-0 and 8-0 runs. The Revolutionaries got within seven twice in the fourth quarter but couldn't draw closer, falling by a final of 71-62.
Emma Theodorsson led the way with 13 points, the most for her in a GW uniform this season. Colleen Phiri added 11, including three triples, while Kamari Sims finished with 10 points. Theodorsson led the team with three assists while also grabbing 10 points for her first double-double of the year.
The Buff & Blue return to the DMV and make the short trip to Georgetown on Friday. Tip-off against the host Hoyas is slated for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
