WASHINGTON – The George Washington women's basketball team suffered a 79-50 setback at Georgetown on Friday night, dropping the Revolutionaries to 1-4 overall. The Buff & Blue were paced by Sara Lewis, who tallied a season and game-high 16 points.
After falling behind early, GW trailed by as many as 20 points midway through the second quarter. Struggling to find consistency on both ends of the floor, the Revolutionaries flipped a switch, finishing the half on a 15-5 run to get within 10 at the halftime break.
GW carried the momentum into the second half, trimming Georgetown's lead to five on multiple occasions early in the third quarter. In total, the Buff & Blue limited the Hoyas to just five points over 8:30 of game time between the second and third quarters, while scoring 20 points of their own in that stretch.
Feeling the heat, Georgetown dialed up their play a notch, getting back on track late in the third. The Hoyas ultimately outscored GW 19-6 in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 79-50 win.
10 of Lewis' 16 points were tallied at the free-throw line, where she finished 10-12 on the night, both of which are career-highs. DMV native Kamari Sims posted eight points, all of which came in the first half, while Gabby Reynolds and Emma Theodorsson each chipped in five apiece. Tanah Becker finished her evening with four points, five rebounds and two steals. Georgetown was paced by Khia Miller with 11.
GW won't have long to mull the game over as they return to action Sunday, hosting Morgan State at 2:00 p.m. Live coverage will be available on ESPN+.
