WASHINGTON - In search of an elusive second win in A-10 play, the George Washington women's basketball team welcomed VCU to DC Wednesday night. Despite falling behind 12-2 to start the contest, the GW Revs rallied to close within three at the quarter break, 19-16, and went on to take a 46-41 lead in the closing minutes of the third quarter, but couldn't hold on in the 65-56 setback.
Sara Lewis and Gabby Reynolds paced the team in scoring with 13 points apiece, while Maxine Engel (11) also found her way into double digits. Lewis and Engel combined to shoot 9-of-17 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from deep, but the game was won at the free throw line where the visiting Rams connected at a .696 clip (16-of-23) while the Revolutionaries labored through a .500 night (8-of-16).
George Washington's next chance to get back in the winning column comes Saturday at George Mason at 3 p.m. GW will also be seeking a bit of revenge after falling to the Patriots at home in December.
