Men’s Soccer Drops Match to George Mason, 5-2

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Washington University men's soccer team (2-7-1, 0-2-0 A-10) fell to George Mason (8-1-0, 2-0-0 A-10) on Saturday night at George Mason Stadium. The Revolutionaries and Patriots were tied at 2-2 late in the match, but a handful of late George Mason conversions gave the three points to the Patriots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
30TH MINUTE: A free kick near the corner flag was sent in by GW's Finn Roberts, which found the head of Will Turner on the far side of the net, who headed the cross back across to goal mouth and found Carter Humm, who headed the ball past the George Mason goalkeeper. Both Turner and Roberts picked up assists.
32ND MINUTE: George Mason evened the match as Marek Gonda converted a penalty kick.
42ND MINUTE: The Patriots took a 2-1 lead just before half in a similar looking conversion to GW's first goal. James Eliuda sent an aerial pass across the box, which was headed back across goal by Abdul Kamara to the foot of Henry Wachsman who fired home his shot to the upper-right corner of the net.
63RD MINUTE: Roee Tenne found himself with the ball after a turnover in George Mason's defensive zone. Tenne fed a pass into the box to Jaden Dubon, who ripped his shot into the lower-right corner of the net.
77TH MINUTE: After a Patriot cross was sent in and a header towards net was blocked by a GW defender, George Mason's Quentin Clain collected the rebound and fired home the eventual match-winner. Jordi Sanchez and Gonda assisted on the play.
84TH MINUTE: Clain got his second goal of the match when he slipped behind the GW defense and found himself all alone with the GW goalkeeper.
84TH MINUTE: Moments after George Mason's fourth goal, Eliuda took a shot from distance which was pushed aside by GW's goalkeeper, but the rebound found its way to , who scored his second goal of the match.

Humm's goal was his first of the campaign and third of his career at GW.

Tenne nabbed his first point of the season with his assist in the second half.

George Mason defeated GW for the first time since Sept. 28, 2019.

George Mason outshot GW, 26-5, including 10-2 in shots on goal.

Yellow cards were issued to GW's Colin Prendergast (32nd minute) and Louis Saville (75th minute).

The Revolutionaries will travel to Dayton, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 5 for their next match to face the Dayton Flyers. First kick at Baujan Field is set for 7:00 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
