As the NCAA celebrates 20 years of Division I Academic Success, national four-year Academic Progress Rates (APR) remain steady across the country and the George Washington University Department of Athletics is no exception.
For the second-consecutive year, the university saw seven programs recognized with a perfect multiyear APR. Once again, GW's men's track and cross country, rowing, women's swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball and water polo teams were honored.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I athletics teams. It provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Today's announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years.
