Track Concludes Day One of A-10 Outdoor Championships

FAIRFAX, Va. – Sarah Mitchell's PR time of 4:26.47 in the 1500m headlined GW's showing during day one of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships. Mitchell and Ryan Fowkes both advanced to tomorrow's championship races in the 1500m for the Buff & Blue.
Mitchell kickstarted GW's day with a second-place finish in the 1500m with her PR mark of 4:26.47. She finished less than a second off the top time, a 4:27.73 set by Madison Trippett from Richmond. Mitchell finished second out of a field of 39 runners and beat her old PR of 4:29.40 set at last year's A-10 Championships. The women's 1500m finals is Sunday at 11:20 a.m.
On the men's side, Fowkes also earned a bid into tomorrow's championship race with a time of 3:58.37. Fowkes finished in 12th overall out of 35 runners, earning a spot in the 1500m finals for the third consecutive year and will race for gold tomorrow at 11:35 a.m. Jacob Heredia, Fowkes' GW teammate, finished just behind with a time of 3:59.45 for 15th. He narrowly missed a qualifying bid into tomorrow's finals by less than a second.
Lucas Brown tallied a PR for GW in the 10K, clocking a 30:50.27 for 15th. Brown shattered his previous record of 31:49.01 set during last year's championship meet. On the women's side, Rachel Horowitz missed qualifying for the 400m final by less than three-tenths of a second with a ninth-place finish in 57.08. The top eight runners advanced to tomorrow's final with Davidson's Sophia Hood taking the final qualification spot with a 56.80.
In total, GW will compete in seven races during day two of the A-10 Championships tomorrow. A list of GW's events is listed below:
