Lacrosse Falls at A-10 Power UMass, 19-2

AMHERST, Mass. - Matched up with traditional A-10 lacrosse powerhouse UMass in Amherst, Mass. for the Minutewomen's Senior Day Saturday, the GW lacrosse team fell behind early and couldn't keep pace in a 19-2 defeat.

UMass scored the first four goals of the contest before Phoebe Mullarkey got the Buff and Blue on the scoreboard at the 3:35 mark of the first quarter. UMass tallied three more times to close the opening stanza to end the first 15 minutes with a 7-1 lead.

The hosts then shut out George Washington in the second quarter while scoring six of its own to hold a 13-1 advantage at intermission. UMass again held the Revolutionaries off the scoreboard in the third quarter to hold a 17-1 edge going into the final frame.

In the fourth, GW was outscored 2-1, capitalizing on a last-second goal from Desiree Kleberg to avoid the second-half shutout. Kleberg's goal was unassisted and her 32nd of the season.

GW closes the 2024 campaign at home on Saturday for Senior Day against the visiting La Salle Explorers. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. from the GW Lacrosse Field. Live coverage will be available on ESPN+.
