RICHMOND, Va. – The George Washington men's and women's track team set two program records and 11 personal records en route to a spectacular showing at the Fred Hardy Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond. The event opened the 2024 outdoor season for the Revolutionaries, the first of 10 meets slated for the regular season.
Headlining GW's top performances were Rachel Horowitz and Kamryn Holness, who both set new program records at the meet. Horowitz, who set five school benchmarks during the 2023-24 indoor season, set a new school-best time of 24.97 in the 200m dash. The time was good enough to earn her second place as an individual in the event. Holness made her mark in the record book in the 400m hurdles, recording a time of 1:12.22 for 11th place and a new PR. Holness' time breaks the previous record of 1:12.64, which was set by Liberty Mason-Sharma at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in 2015.
Along with Horowitz and Holness, Ryan Fowkes also shined bright with an individual victory in the men's 1500m. Fowkes recorded a time of 3:47.82 to claim gold out of the 60-runner field. Also headlining the day for the Buff & Blue were nine various times that earned PR's. Those runners included Janae Russell (13.08 – 100m), Kayla DeSousa (1:02.57 – 400m), Colin Funk (1:55.37 – 800m), Michael Bohlke (1:58.56 – 800m), Sarah Mitchell (2:17.05 – 800m), Rita Mazumder (2:18.50 – 800m), Kevin Conlon (3:56.77 – 1500m), Austin Brotemarkle (3:59.23 – 1500m), Lucas Brown (4:04.41 – 1500m) and Ashley Robinson (5:11.66 – 1500m).
GW finished with stellar results both in the men's 800m and the men's 1500m. In the men's 800m, GW finished with three of the top nine runners, including Fowkes who finished with a mark of 1:54.02 for third place. In the 1500m, the Revolutionaries earned four of the top nine runners headlined by Fowkes' first-place finish and Bohlke's time of 3:50.61 for third. Sarah Mitchell finished with a solid showing in the 1500m as well, placing fourth out of 67 runners with a time of 4:32.66.
GW is back in action from March 28-30 at the Raleigh Relays. A full list of results can be found here.
