Volleyball Primed for A-10 Championship, Facing Davidson in Quarterfinals

WASHINGTON- After finishing with a split 9-9 record in conference play and a 19-12 overall regular season record, the GW Volleyball team earned the fifth spot in the six-team Atlantic 10 conference championship. This appearance marks the 27th trip to the conference tournament for GW in its program history. The Revolutionaries will travel to Dayton, Ohio to face No. 4 seeded Davidson in a 1 p.m. quarterfinal matchup on Friday afternoon. The winner of the quarterfinal match will advance to face the national No. 18 and A-10 No. 1 Dayton Flyers in the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
REGULAR SEASON REWIND
After finishing with its best non-conference record since 2015, GW Volleyball was able to capture three conference series sweeps over Fordham, George Mason and Saint Louis. Falling to only the top three teams in the league in Dayton, VCU and Loyola Chicago, the GW Revs splits series with Duquesne, Davidson and Rhode Island to earn a slot in the A-10 championships. Statistically, GW finished in the top five in numerous categories, including points, hitting percentage, assists, kills, blocks and service aces. ON THE WILDCATS
As previously mentioned, the Buff & Blue earned a split with the Wildcats in the regular season, earning a sweep over the 'Cats in the opener before falling in five sets in the finale. The Wildcats finished 11-7 in the league, earning series victories over Saint Louis, Duquesne, Fordham and Rhode Island, while also splitting with Loyola Chicago and George Mason. Like GW, Davidson was also defeated by the top two teams in the league in Dayton and VCU.Â
